Some of the plants that will be used to create the naturalistic planting scheme at Ripple Retreat.

Ripple Retreat, winner of the ARCHICAD Project of the Year Award 2015, is being built as a retreat for children with cancer and their families. The project is fully funded by the charity, It’s Good 2 Give and was designed by Tony Kettle, Kettle Collective.

Located on the shores of Loch Venacher in the Loch Lommand and Trossachs National Park, the aim of Ripple Retreat is to offer these families a place of sanctuary. The holiday house of their dreams, exclusively theirs, for one whole week.

It’s a pretty incredible build and for the last year or so Nicola and I have been creating a design for the outdoor space. It’s been a long haul of design challenges plus the many environmental considerations of working within a world famous National Park.

The planting is naturalistic in style using swathes of grasses and perennials, partly for aesthetic reason but also to protect against grazing deer. Every single plant chosen had to be run past the National Park team.

Today, we’re absolutely delighted to have received approval for our detailed landscape plans for Ripple Retreat.
